Day 1: 13 April 2012 Adelaide- San Francisco Board your flight to San Francisco with Air New Zealand. Whilst in transit in Auckland you will be joined by tour host Graham Abbott. Upon arrival, travel into San Francisco via “49 mile route”. The remainder of the afternoon is free to settle in before transferring to a local restaurant to enjoy a welcome dinner. Day 2: 14 April 2012 San Francisco Today discover the surrounding regions of San Francisco on a private tour. After breakfast travel to San Francisco pier to board the Golden Gate ferry across the bay to where the small charming town of Sausalito awaits. Named after the "little willow" trees which 18th century Spanish explorers found growing along its streams, Sausalito is best known for its spectacular waterfront views. You will have some free time to wander this quaint town before boarding your coach to the Muir Woods National Monument. The forest of California Coast redwood sequoia trees is amongst the oldest and tallest on earth. From here you will then travel to the wine capital of California; Napa Valley, spend the afternoon wine tasting and enjoying lunch at the Coppola Winery Geyersville at Rustics Restaurant.. Day 3: 15 April 2012 San Francisco This morning will be at your leisure before taking in an afternoon private tour of the city incorporating the Legion of Honour and Fine Arts Museum, incorporating a short concert, showcasing the Museums pipe organ and chamber orchestra. You will have some free time to prepare yourself and grab a quick meal before being transferred to the Davies Symphony Hall and attending the concert of one of the US’s premier orchestra’s – the Cleveland Philharmonic.*. Accommodation: Prescott Hotel^ Meals included: Breakfast Day 4: 16 April 2012 San Francisco Today it is all about experiencing SF up close. After breakfast you will head off to Chinatown for a guided walking tour and a traditional dim sum lunch. San Francisco’s Chinatown is the largest Chinatown outside of Asia as well as the oldest Chinatown in North America. In the afternoon take the ferry to Alcatraz for a guided tour. Often referred to as "The Rock" or simply "Traz", the small island was developed with facilities for a lighthouse, a military fortification, but it is best known as the infamous prison. Day 5: 17 April 2012 San Francisco - Cambria After breakfast travel the Pacific Coast highway stopping enroute at Santa Cruz and Monterrey. You will then take a walking tour of Carmel and visit the Mission San Carlos before arriving at the seaside resort town of Cambria. Day 6: 18 April 2012 Cambria - Los Angeles This morning after breakfast you will continue the drive towards Los Angeles, stopping enroute in the heart of the Santa Barbara's wine country near the Santa Ynez Mountains at the Danish Village of Solvang, before continuing to “America’s Riviera” and the coastal city of Santa Barbara. It is then onto the City of Angels, where you will have time to settle into your accommodation before dinner at the Coast Beach Café and then transferring to the Disney concert Hall for the evening’s performance by the LA Philharmonic.* Accommodation: Georgian Hotel Santa Monica^ Meals included: Breakfast and Dinner
Day 7: 19 April 2012 Los Angeles Today is a full day of sightseeing in Los Angeles. Your city tour will take in the major city sites along with a private Docent led tour of the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Home to the Timbisha Shoshone people and to plants and animals unique to the harshest desert. It is then off to Las Vegas. Day 10: 22 April 2012 Grand Canyon After breakfast tour to the Grand Canyon by road. Your tour will take you first to Hoover Dam and some time at the visitor centre before continuing through the Joshua Tree Forest en route to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon. At the West Rim, visit Hualapai Indian Country, explore the Indian village and take advantage of the many photo opportunities. Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Grand Canyon from Eagle Point, where you'll experience the latest attraction - the Grand Canyon Skywalk. After you walk over the edge of the Grand Canyon, learn the history and geology of the canyon from your guide. Your final stop at Guano Point will offer a spectacular view of the Colorado River. Upon arrival back in Las Vegas the evening is free – perhaps to take in one of the Cirque de Soleil shows or simply walk the Strip and enjoy the many spectacular displays offered by the various hotels – erupting volcano’s, pirates at war or dancing fountains. Day 11: 23 April 2012 Las Vegas Today is yours to do with as you wish – take in one of the many shopping experiences, test your luck at the casino or simply relax. In the evening you will embark on a tour of Las Vegas ending at the Venetian with a gondola ride on the canal. Day 13: 25 April 2012 Las Vegas - New York It will be an early start as you board your flight to the “big apple”. Upon arrival in New York you will be transferred to your accommodation. There will be some time to settle in before enjoying a “rush hour” concert by the New York Philharmonic* at the Avery Fisher Hall. Following the concert you will enjoy dinner in a local restaurant. Days 14 - 21: 26 April 2012 - 4 May 2012 New York City Your time in New York has been kept open to allow for you indulge your own interests, However to get you acclimatised you will start the day with a “hop on and hop off” bus tour of this amazing city. Your tour pass is valid for 72 hours and includes 4 tour loops - the Downtown Loop, Uptown Loop, Brooklyn Loop, and Night tour and your choice of 5 attraction entrances or activities. Following a Matinee Performance by New York Philharmonic at the Avery Fisher, it will be time to board your coach and head north to Boston. Day 23: 5 May 2012 Boston Following breakfast you will enjoy a full day of sightseeing in Boston. Your private tour will include Paul Revere’s House, Old South Meeting House, and Old North Church. Day 24: 6 May 2012 Boston - Chicago After a brief stop in Boston it is off to the airport for your flight to Chicago. Upon arrival in Chicago, you will be transferred to your accommodation. You will have time to settle in before being transferred to an afternoon performance of the Chicago Symphony at the Symphony Centre.* This will be followed by dinner at a local restaurant. Day 25: 7 May 2012 Chicago Following breakfast you will embark on a full day of sightseeing in Chicago. Your private tour will include the north and south sides of Chicago before taking the worlds fastest elevators to the Skydeck of the Hancock Observatory. Travelling 94 floors in 39 seconds you can on a clear day you can see up to 80 miles away and view four states - Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin. Experience the open-air Skydeck, 1,000 feet above Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, where you can feel the wind, take in the sun and check out the dynamic city below. From here you will continue to Frank Lloyd Wright’s home and studio. The Home and Studio (1889/1898) served as Wright's private residence and workplace from 1889 to 1909—the first 20 years of his career. Wright used his home as an architectural laboratory, experimenting with design concepts that contain the seeds of his architectural philosophy. The evening is at leisure. Day 26: 8 May 2012 Chicago - Washington DC Transfer this morning to O’Hare international airport for your flight to Philadelphia. Upon arrival you will enjoy a brief tour of “Philly”. Founded on October 27, 1682 by William Penn, Philadelphia has played an instrumental role in American history; as a meeting place for the Founding Fathers of the United States, who signed the nation's Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 and the constitution on September 17, 1787. Today it is the home of the “cheesesteak” and soft pretzel and boasts more outdoor sculptures and murals than any other American city. From here you will step back in time to Lancaster County. Part of this region in Pennsylvania’s charm is the homespun warmth which stems from the Amish community. These families, farmers and craftsmen follow a deeply religious, family-centered lifestyle that has maintained this tradition through a simple way of life that has not adopted the mainstream culture, yet has adapted in many necessary ways throughout the last 300 years. Day 27: 9 May 2012 Washington DC Today you will tour the Nation’s Capital taking in such sites as The US Capitol building; recognised as one of the most beautiful building in the world. And of course a visit to Washington would not be complete without seeing the White House, Lincoln Memorial, FDR Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument and many more before joining a trolley tour to Arlington National Cemetery. Day 28: 10 May 2012 Washington DC As your time in America draws to a close your last full day incorporates themes synonymous with Washington – Spies and Chilli! After breakfast you will be transferred to the International Spy Museum. This quirky and interactive museum enables you to tap into your own “James Bond” and delve into the world of espionage! Your afternoon is free before being transferred to an iconic Washington dining establishment – Ben’s Chilli Bowl. Following your 3 course meal you will then expose yourself to the world of Voodoo – “Big Bad Voodoo Daddy” that is, performing with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Centre.
